The Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts and the Institute for Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe), led by Associate Professor Dr Hasnizam Abdul Wahid, participates in PUSAKA and the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) to add value to the Sarawak timber industry, fostering furniture through the SayD'Signer Sarawak program​​​​ designer.

The SayD'Signer Sarawak programme was developed by STIDC in partnership with UNIMAS, which was established under the leadership of Kursi PUSAKA to support STIDC's vision to transform the Sarawak timber industry into a high value-added industry by 2030 and train 100 young designer.

The event which is co-organized by Saradec and Bandung Institute of Technology was held at Borneo Convention Center, Kuching from 13 February 2023 to 16 February 2023.

Some highlights of the 2022 UNIMAS Institutes and Academy Open Days involving the Center for Spatially Integrated Digital Humanities (CSIDH), Borneo Institute (IBS) and Institute for Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe) with UNIMAS Research, Innovation Collaboration and Enterprise Center (RIEC) on October 12, 2022. The launch ceremony was held at SPACE, Faculty of Language and Communication, officiated by Prof Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of UNIMAS.

Meanwhile, a poetry book donation ceremony was also held where Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, Group CEO of Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad Group and Kelabit poet, presented a copy of "Poems of Jungle Boys" which he wrote to Perpustakaan Tun Abdul Rahman Poem by Ms Levas Mejus Director of Ya'kub (PeTARY). We are very grateful for this donation as we are sure our students will benefit from it.

The day is filled with great talks from esteemed speakers, demos, a career display, booths selling crafts, food and books, games and more. UNIMAS is also pleased to host schools from all over Kuching and Kota Samarahan during the Open Day.

Institute for Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe) held the PUSAKA-UNIMAS furniture design competition at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on June 27, 2023, and awarded awards to Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) students who participated in the furniture design competition outside the office.

This demonstrates that FBE students are not limited to architecture but are also versatile in design, with their submitted and winning designs selected on the basis of visual aesthetics, functionality, innovative use and technicality.

The Institute of Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe) had an engaging and fruitful session today with the team from UNIMAS Global at the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts. We are grateful to UNIMAS Global for visiting and discussing important issues related to international students, student visas, international relations, the international mobility programme, and the edu-tourism programme.

During the session, we exchanged valuable insights and ideas on enhancing the mobility and edu-tourism programmes, benefiting not only international students but also the local community. We are excited to collaborate closely with UNIMAS Global to develop initiatives that foster a better understanding of diverse cultures, promote internationalisation, and strengthen ties between UNIMAS and universities worldwide.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to UNIMAS Global for their gracious participation and commitment to meaningful collaborations. We look forward to continuing our communication and working together for the betterment of the university, as well as our international and local communities.

The Fundamentals of Label and Packaging Design course was conducted by the Institute of Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe), the students who participated in this course also designed creative and unique labels and packaging, including boxes and cans.

Exciting day at the InnoTech Hub in Faculty of Build and Environment (FBE), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), as we hosted a visit from the talented organizations of Indonesian Universities start from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on 9th August 2023! Witnessed an array of innovative forest timber products crafted by students for the PUSAKA-UNIMAS Furniture Competition, showcasing their creativity and skill.

The Institute of Creative Arts and Technology (iCreaTe) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has just wrapped up a fantastic 2-day event, the "Kursi PUSAKA Seminar," in collaboration with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC). Held on August 23rd and 24th, 2023, at the Raia Hotel Convention Centre Kuching, the seminar brought together 11 brilliant researchers from UNIMAS, STIDC, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), and KTS Plantation. They delved into insightful discussions about forest timber products, topped off with an enlightening keynote address by YBhg. Datu Haji Hashim bin Haji Bojet. We are very happy to welcome Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and express our gratitude for the engaging and insightful discussion regarding the Coffee Table Book Kursi PUSAKA with Mr. Saiful Hairi bin Othman, iCreaTe’s Research Officer. The discussion was further enhanced by the thoughtful contributions from STIDC representatives Mr. Norman Botes Noma from the Corporate Communication Division, along with Mrs. Masuri binti Johari and Mrs. Farhana binti Mohd Arip from the Research, Development & Innovation Division.

The iCreaTe Fellow Committee Meeting went smoothly, thanks to Prof. Dr. Hasnizam Abdul Wahid, our expert chairman and the active participation of several iCreaTe research fellows. In this meeting, we covered exciting updates and discussios on the iCreaTe Open Day, research progress, the music seminar and some upcoming activities.
